What is worth mending and what isn’t? There definitely isn’t one answer to this question, and I know everyone has their own priorities and values. But It continues to surprise me how some people react to the mending projects I share. It’s strange sometimes to think about what we give value to and how we spend our time and the judgments around that. The fact these jeans fit me is probably reason enough to mend them, or does it only become worthwhile when you learn they could be worth $100? Or is it worth it because the 90’s are in style? Or because these jeans are 35+ years old? Is 2.5 hours the correct amount of time to devote to this? What if instead I’d spent that time on the couch watching Love Island? No judgement on trashy reality shows here! I actually am going to do more work on these, I want to add hand stitching to the patches on the back and to cover up a stain on the leg. I’m in no rush to finish these, I enjoy the process. In fact, the time I spend mending is my time best spent. It’s therapeutic, it’s resistance and protest, it’s magical.
