Uniqlo has Seven different sister brands, which are silently taking over the fashion world… and you would not have even heard of them... The first sister brand is one that Uniqlo’s parent company, Fast Retailing Company, has created to go to war with H&M, Zara and Bershka… First, some context… Uniqlo is a brand that is anti-fast fashion… it wants to make clothes that are high quality, will last, and will not change as per emerging monthly trends… But at the same time, its parent company realizes that in this high dopamine, heavy consumerism era of the Gen Z, the way to make money is to ride trends… So it has launched another brand called “GU” (Jee-Yoo) which is the trendy, seasonal, affordable fashion brand… and is even cheaper than Zara, H&M and Bershka in Japan. GU has just entered the US market, but it is not the only brand from the Uniqlo parent. The same group also owns a brand called Theory, which is modern, minimalist business wear. It also owns “Helmut Lang” (Hel-moot Lahng), which is an experimental luxury fashion brand, where a tshirt would cost you between Rs 25,000 to 50,000/- and would compare to the likes of Maison Margiela and The Row. There is “PLST” (Plus T) that makes European inspired businesswear for the Japanese market, and “J Brand”, which is the conglomerate’s denim wear brand. There are also “Comptoir des Cotonniers”, which makes French women’s fashion and “Princesse Tam Tam” that makes lingerie. Just studying how the brands owned by Uniqlo’s parent company is such an exceptional case study in how each brand may look similar, but caters to a completely different target customer, age profile, need and price point. Because remember, the biggest lesson in business is – when your brand sells to everyone, it sells to absolutely no one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like, Share, Subscribe for more!
