The Tarkhan Dress is the oldest known woven garment ever found — over 5,000 years old and discovered in ancient Egypt. But here's the wild part: it sat in a pile of dirty rags for 64 years before anyone realized what it was. Found by Egyptologist Flinders Petrie in 1913, it wasn't identified as clothing until 1977 when conservators at the Victoria and Albert Museum followed a single seam and realized those "rags" were a tailored linen dress with pleated sleeves and a V-neck. Oxford's radiocarbon dating confirmed it: made between 3482–3102 BC — before Egypt's first dynasty even existed. It still shows crease marks at the elbows and armpits from whoever last wore it. Fashion hasn't changed as much as you think. 📍 Now on display at the UCL Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, London. #ancientegypt #history #historyfacts #historytok #shorts #themoreyouknow #archaeology #didyouknow #ancienthistory #egyptology #funfacts #mindblown #historicalfacts #oldestintheworld #tarkhandress #viral #unexplained #historybuff #shortsfeed #factsyoudidntknow
