Apparently this dye is pronounced RIGHT DYE not rit…Whatev tho Hope this video was helpful! Please find the written instructions below! DIY fabric dye using Rit DyeMore Synthetic Dye Instructions We weighed our cushion covers (outsunny 100% polyester) using a shipping scale and determined we would need 12 bottles of rit dye synthetic to complete the job (2 pounds fabric per 1 bottle rit dye) Altogether we used 6 bottle of Frost Grey and 6 bottles of Black to create medium grey tone We split the cushions and dye into three batches (four bottles each batch) because the largest pot we had which is a large rectangle pickling pot would only fit so many cushions and we had to be able to stir the cushions and have them move freely the whole time Rit dye recommends you add a tablespoon of dish detergent to help the mixture and dye emulsify Possibly they meant one tablespoon per bottle but we didn't realize and did one tablespoon per 4 bottle and things worked out fine We pre wet the cushions in the sink, brought the water to 200 degrees using a candy thermometer and added the dye and soap to the water and then put in the wet cushions We then stirred the almost boiling mixture for a full 30 minutes We have a gas oven and had all 5 burners running at almost full heat under the pickling pot, it was hot to stand over it and stir for 30 minutes but was tolerable and we wore safety glasses and a mask to be safe regarding potential fumes (this would be possibly safer outside over a fire) This was repeated for all three batches of cushion covers totalling 36 pounds of fabric We rinsed the cushions in the laundry tub as to not stain any sinks and then threw the wet cushions into the wash until all three batches were done and we washed the whole lot and hung the cushions to dry The cushions came out perfect and we were so happy to find a cheap solution as replacing the covers is much more costly then buying rit dye
