How do the Chinese turn tree bark into shoes? Did you know that the Chinese can make shoes from plant fibers? Ramie, scientifically known as Boehmeria nivea, is a familiar plant in many parts of Asia. The production process begins with removing the leaves and cutting off the base of the plant. The stalks are then fed into a machine to extract the fibers. These ramie fibers are sun-dried until they are completely dry. Once dried, workers comb through the fibers, then spin them into thin, strong threads using a machine. The threads are woven tightly into long, flat, and durable strips. Skilled artisans shape these strips around shoe molds and use a press to form the soles. To increase durability, the edges of the strips are carefully stitched. Next, a thin layer of rubber is poured into a mold, the ramie-based sole is placed on top, and both parts are heat-pressed to bond them together. After trimming off the excess rubber, the finished sole is attached to the shoe upper, creating an eco-friendly and sustainable footwear product. #ramie #shoes #craftman #productionprocess #traditionalcrafts #facts #interestingfacts #uniquefacts #uniqueshorts #shorts #lumifarm
